Border Patrol conversation (raw recording)
GOD AWFUL SOUND TRANSCRIPT
Sound of metal Nogales Border Wall being played percussively with bare hands by Glenn Weyant.
Sound of Border Patrol truck engine drone approaching and increasing in volume.
Border Patrol Agent calling from truck and pointing at Zoom H2 audio recorder.
Border Patrol Agent: “What’s that God Awful sound? Is that what that thing makes?”
Glenn Weyant: “Ohhhh! God awful sound? Really? No. You really think it is God awful?”
Border Patrol Agent: “I don’t know. I heard something going: RRRAAANNNRRRR!”
Glenn Weyant: “Well, I guess music is subjective. Right?”
Border Patrol Agent: “Yeah eh…”
Glenn Weyant: “So I was playing it… it’s got some nice… to me it’s got some nice… not to you but to me it’s got some nice acoustics. That’s what I was…”
Border Patrol Agent: “O.K.”
Glenn Weyant: “Does it really sound God awful?”
Border Patrol Agent: “Well, no, no, no, no. I heard something that almost sounded like a reciprocating saw or something.”
Glenn Weyant: “Oh no, no, no, no. I ah (Laugh) there is no reciprocating saw.”
Border Patrol Agent: “Yeah.”
Glenn Weyant: “Um, there’s a… I’m just using my hands. I’m just using my hands. It’s just my hands.”
Border Patrol Agent: “Oh.”
Glenn Weyant: “But it’s just a… (Sound of crunching gravel. Sound of Border Wall being tapped lightly to produced a sound indicating a metal welding is loose.) The weld over there might be a little loose? So it gives a little bit of a buzz to it?”
Border Patrol Agent: “It didn’t sound like that. It just kept going RRRRAAAAA. RRRRAAAAAHHH. Like that.”
Glenn Weyant: “Oh ah. That’s not me.”
Border Patrol Agent: “I was just wondering where it is coming from.”
Glenn Weyant: “Right here right now?”
Desert silence and Border Patrol truck engine drone.
Border Patrol Agent: “Well it’s somewhere. Somewhere over here.”
Glenn Weyant: “Oh.”
Border Patrol Agent: “I don’t think… probably not right here. Maybe it was on the other side.”
Glenn Weyant: “Oh.”
Border Patrol Agent: “Sounded kind of weird.”
Sound of Border Patrol truck being put into gear.
Border Patrol Agent: “I don’t know. Must be someone trying to cut a hole in the fence.”
Glenn Weyant: “Well, I’m just playing it.”
Border Patrol Agent: “Heh. Heh. Not you you.”
Glenn Weyant: “I’m just playing it.”
Border Patrol Agent: “Must be somebody else.”
Glenn Weyant: “Yeah.”
Sound of Border Patrol engine drone exits.
Natural desert silence returns.
