Performance for Surveillance : Part III

about

Performance for Surveillance is a three part suite performed in the United States/Mexico borderlands.

The performance was scored for amplified border wall, wind, earth, U.S. Department of Homeland Security surveillance, birds, shortwave radio signals, cello and zebra mask.

These are raw recordings made in a land where hundreds of migrants die every year and countless more pass through.

This is not easy listening. Nor should it be.

At times these recordings sound jagged and worn, full of distortion and rust, not unlike the border wall itself.

But they are also authentic sonic expressions and interpretations of an exact moment in time.

There was no attempt to clean them up other than fades at either end of each track.

In addition to the three audio tracks, purchase of this album also includes the original score --- which is suitable for virtually any location where the performer/watcher dynamic exists --- and video from the 10/10/13 performance.
