about

New Work For Prepared Mower : Autumn In Vermont is the latest work in the ongoing Vermont Mower Series.
The instrument was prepared by setting the blade at the lowest setting prior to performance and run over roughly a quarter acre of fog dampened grass allowed to grow for approximately three weeks.
The instrument was then stored in a barn for approximately a week allowing the grass residue to set.
Preparation of the mower creates rich earthy harmonically dense tones with a blanket of leaves covering the grass during performance.
The score consists of three patterns performed on a single run.
Each pattern develops the full suite opening with an adagio pattern of leggiero corn harvesting drones prior to the mower sounding, then transgressing into a sinfonietta pattern highlighting the introduction of leaf timbre into the mowing canon before a lovely verismo vox highlighted by the percussion of a distant tree being felled in the forest (Around 33 min in).
Score available by request.
